Mateusz Grobelny

Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw (Master Degree in Ceramics Design) and a two-time laureate of the scholarship program of the Minister of Culture. Mateusz is a designer and a creator of numerous self-built experimental ceramic kilns (including a prototype of a portable kiln).   In firing process, he chooses the unpredictability of wood-fired kilns. He is passionate about  incorporating the raw power of fire in his creating process, where each element has its vital role – the construction of the kiln itself, the layout of ceramics inside the kiln, the way and frequency of adding the wood to the fire. He looks up to Roman, Japanese and Korean traditions (e.g. Tongkama, where the temperature riches 1380°C, the firing can last up to 100 hours and where ash and fire leave their marks directly on ceramics). Since 2010, a manager of the International Ceramic Centre in Boleslawiec.
